I feel like I’ve been seeing more posts and comments though, and looking at those, they seem to still be rising (although probably influenced by bots).
I wonder if the spike of active user may be caused by people first trying it out (then giving up), followed up by people making several accounts on different instances before settling for one or two.

I think that’s the key metric in those graphs - user numbers are dipping after the massive inrush of people after Reddit messed up (a pretty natural dip - no-one expected them all to stick around) but the number of posts keeps climbing.
Anecdotally, I’ve seen a more people posting and commenting in most of my more niche communities after I got the ball rolling.
So that’s a good sign - we don’t need massive absolute numbers of users but we need more quality posts and comments, so don’t be shy people.
It’s probably not a huge amount. Apart from lemnit (now blocked) I haven’t seen any doing high volumes of posts. I have one on a community I moderate which does a post a day. The guy who set it up has others that tick over at a similar frequency but they are hugely outweighed by human posts. However, that’s just my experience and I’d be interested to see those numbers too.
I tried to make accounts on 2 other instances apart from World and it just… didnt work. They took my email and didnt give me a usable account. Sh.itjust.doesntwork

It would be interesting to see post count excluding bots, to see if actual user post numbers are increasing
