I think you probably need some professional help, and also I think the way you look at social media is very different from how others look at social media.
Reddit isn’t Wikipedia or any type of online encyclopedia. It’s social media. It’s Twitter, it’s Facebook, it’s TikTok, etc
I think Reddit is dysfunctional because people are dysfunctional. My hope is to be able to address that by improving people’s health & function via the gut microbiome.
Umm… what?
As much as I hate to agree about anything with this ridiculous person, they’re not completely wrong. There’s well documented evidence that the microbial flora in your gut can affect the way you think. Can it suddenly make you happy after a lifetime of misery? I sincerely doubt it. Here’s a better example. Let’s say your favorite food are strawberry poptarts and you eat a box or two a day. Your gut is probably full microbes that love to break down everything about strawberry pop-tarts. If you start to eat broccoli and cheddar baked potatoes instead pop-tarts, your microbes that like pop-tarts will begin to starve and start sending signals to their cousins in your brain. Suddenly you have desperate cravings for strawberry pop-tarts. This will continue until you eat pop-tarts or until the pop-tarts loving population is reduced through starvation and replaced with other microbes that love potatoes broccoli and cheese.
I remember loving the taste of certain artificially sweetened things like a Wendy’s Frosty. Now, when I try them, I do not get any pleasure from it and I can clearly taste his the sweetness is chemical and gross. That’s because I no longer have trillions of microbes yelling at my brain that artificial flavoring is the best thing ever. It’s weird as fuck.
All that said, there’s a gap the size of the Grand Canyon between craving control and mental health manipulation. OP be out there with a hand glider trying to make that leap.

Why are you accusing me of being a ridiculous person?

This is simply ignorance on your end. As I mentioned in a previous comment, there’s a link included to more information. Feel free to click on it and learn something new. It’s pretty disappointing to see Lemmy users exhibiting many of the worst behaviors of people on reddit – i.e. overconfident willful ignorance.
“overconfident willful ignorance”
Well if that isn’t projection.
will you make a post on your blog complaining that no one on lemmy want your poop, and then post it on reddit?
will you make a post on your blog complaining that no one on lemmy want your poop, and then post it on reddit?
Given that nothing about this post or the blog had anything to do with “offering people my poop”, I’m more likely to make a post complaining that Lemmy is full of astroturfing and/or extremely unintelligent people. Certainly in no way an improvement over reddit.
At least if you leave Lemmy it’ll have one less unintelligent person.
I mean there are studies linking various brain stuff with gut microbiome. It’s actually a thing backed by actual science. I didn’t read the blog though so I don’t know what they said in context and…well I kind of don’t care.
It’s a lot of incoherent misrepresenting of facts and tangential connections that seem really indicative of disorganized speech/thinking.
At least from the bit I skimmed…
A hint that this whole thing is nothing but a giant “shit”post.
You guys certainly made it into one. I’m sure Reddit Inc. is very grateful!
Mental illness is a terrible thing.
There’s a part on the source linked that suggests the poop swap can effect/help autism. Who knew that is all I needed in the end?
Have you tried breaking your computer over your knee like Bane does to Batman? Because that will do about as much to change things at reddit as a fucking blog post. It’s dead. Move on.
For how long this is, it’s very confusing. Some links also didn’t work. This reads like someone who is way overly invested in their reddit account though. Like, I doubt you’ll find any lawyer in the US who will go to bat over you getting banned. Privately owned (as in not government-owned, so regardless of any possible IPOs in the future) companies have freedom of speech which gives them the right to censor whoever and however they want. We don’t need to like it, but it is what it is. I’m personally ok with them being allowed to censor whatever they want because I don’t want to get into the mess of the government defining what speech is or isn’t against the law. I’d be maybe ok with drawing a line on incitement and/or active assistance to violate laws or another’s rights, but that’s about it. But there is no right to have speech or say what you want on someone else’s platform.
Does this make reddit dangerous? Absolutely not.
You did learn a lesson.
Don’t pour yourself into work that someone else owns. You can easily lose it.
It sounds like it was a harsh lesson for you. I sympathize. But I don’t know what else you expect from a for-profit corporation.
You’re on an alternative. They already exist. You’re also preaching to people who already agree alternatives are important.
Edit: added a word for clarity because some people can’t carry context from one sentence to another.
Okay, I totally agree with your argument here but
…I don’t want to get into the mess of the government defining what is or isn’t against the law.
is an objectively funny statement. Who else do you think generally does this?
Defining what speech is against the law. Out of context it’s humorous, but I would have thought it was obvious in context.
I don’t want to get into the mess of the government defining what is or isn’t against the law
What does that even mean
What speech is determined to be against the law.
Jfc people. Context. If I had a nickel for everyone who didn’t get it, I’d have 10 cents, but it’s weird it happened twice.
Does this make reddit dangerous? Absolutely not.
I think your comments are a huge oversimplification of the arguments I made.
You’re on an alternative. They already exist. You’re also preaching to people who already agree alternatives are important.
Indeed. I’m sharing information to keep people informed, and hopefully we can have good discussion (leading to action) on the various pros and cons of reddit alternatives.
Never heard before, what’s that? 🤔
Humanity needs a viable alternative
The headline said, on a viable alternative to Reddit.
Yikes. Delete all the social media.
