TakeTwo / Rockstar seems to outsource this work onto a 3rd party porting house which does the minimal effort to port the thing on time and on budget. Look at the debacle that was their GTA “definitive” edition which but was so buggy, broken and gimped that it was universally panned. I wonder if Grove Street Games will get the porting gig for RDR or if Rockstar will foist it out on someone else. And charging $50 for a port is taking the piss in any event. If it were a remake, or reimagining with a new engine then maybe, but just porting all the code and assets and tossing in a few extra textures? No way.

There are quality porting houses (e.g. Bluepoint), and really RDR is a game that should be given to someone who cares about the port and is given the time and money to make it work.

$50 for a port to a lower-end system…it should be like $29.99 max and even that’s high. Read Dead is amazing and all, but it’s been out since 2010.

Yeah, I’d say $30 would be the magic number for this. $50 is brand new game territory.

It just shows how corporate leaders lost touch with reality and consumers.

Reminds me of a youtube video where they are asking millennial children of rich parents what they think the prices are of basic groceries. The answers are not even close to reality as they have no concept of minimal wage or budgeting or even comparison what the answers should be.

$50 for a current game is a shitty value. And no matter how much I love RDR, it’s a shittier value for a 13 year old game.

Maybe its me but I’m tired of games from the PS3/360 era still being sold as new today. Make new games! Or, build online worlds that live and breathe for decades and make the “games” exist in that same space.

How many times have you beat a game and thought, well if there were just more missions, this would continue being fun. I personally would opt for that versus remastered games. In theory the process of porting could have been avoided by just importing the dialogue and overlaying it on top of RDR2 so that the two games are literally merged together.

Pricing aside, they finally port RDR1 to something other than 7th gen consoles and their choice was the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation…4?

I get that you can play it on PS5, but it hardly takes advantage of the better hardware this way. And where’s the PC version?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

There’s good news if you felt thrown by the $50 price tag for 13-year-old Red Dead Redemption’s Nintendo Switch and PS4 release: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says the cost is right.

Seriously, IGN reports that Zelnick had his reasons, which he clearly laid out after the company’s Q2 earnings report, “That’s just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it.”

Points of frustration around Red Dead Redemption’s sticker price are extensive, including the lack of a multiplayer option and a complete lack of a quality update since its 2010 release (no 4K visuals in sight).

There’s also the small matter that the game is already available on Xbox Series X in 4K for $40.

Take-Two is leaning on the inclusion of Undead Nightmare, a Red Dead Redemption expansion, in the port as a rationale for the higher price.

If the words of a CEO have convinced you to pay $50 for Red Dead Redemption, you can buy the digital version for the Nintendo Switch or PS4 starting August 17th, with a physical release to follow on October 13th.

    I’m a bot and I’m open source!

People have shown with buying the Super Mario scam package that Take-Two is absolutely right here. Thanks everyone who fell into that Nintendo trap, we’ll have many years to harvest these stupid customers aftermath. Can’t wait to see this happen more often and more expensive too.
