Original Title: Nasa’s James Webb Space Telescope may have discovered tentative evidence of a sign of life on a faraway planet. It may have detected a molecule called dimethyl sulphide (DMS). Only produced by life. This is relevant because it make life outside of earth more likely and ufos more likely. My opinion.
Carbon-based molecules found on ‘water world’ exoplanet.! It’s a informative video explaining k2-18b by a Cambridge professor. I also included some up to date links regarding k2-18b. I don’t know about that name though. I think they could do better with potentially habitable planet names.
Could this ‘water world’ host life? Cambridge astronomers have used data from the James Webb Space Telescope to discover methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of K2-18 b, a ‘Hycean’ exoplanet with an ocean surface beneath a hydrogen-rich atmosphere. This is the first time that carbon-based molecules have been discovered in the atmosphere of an exoplanet in the habitable zone.
The researchers also identified another, weaker, signal in the K2-18 b atmosphere, which could be caused by a molecule called dimethyl sulphide (DMS). On Earth, DMS is only produced by life, primarily microbial life such as marine phytoplankton, suggesting the possibility of biological activity on K2-18 b. While these signs of DMS are tentative and require further validation, the researchers say that K2-18 b and other Hycean planets could be our best chance to find life outside our Solar System.
I posted this because I thought it was important news but of course it still needs future investigation. I enjoy reading about new discoveries from technology such as the James Webb. I think that telescope technology is going to get much better in the next decade.
It may be wishful thinking on my part but I think technology is getting ready to make a leap in the next 10-20 years in which the world has never seen. It makes me want to stay healthy. Hopefully we can all stay alive long enough to see some of mankind’s biggest questions answered. Is there alien craft and bodies in some locations on earth, I don’t know. I do think life will be found one day . I hope that knowledge is met with the enthusiasm it deserves.
That’s why I think k2-18 is a important discovery. K2-18 could be the greatest discovery in human history. I think it deserves a better name. Just for fun I’m going to attempt to rename it . I think I will name it” megálos okeanós”. Ok, I renamed it the planet for you Nasa! Now I expect it to be officially changed soon! Lol.
