Republicans haven’t backed off their anti-choice views. Instead, the’ve tried to bamboozle the voters into thinking that Republicans aren’t as radical as they really are. Republicans have played word games, hoping that by rebranding with terms like “pro-baby” or bullying journalists into using the “limits” instead of “bans,” they could somehow trick people into not noticing their rights are being stripped.
Tuesday’s election showed voters are not fooled.
Ohio Governor Dewine is a perfect example of these manipulation attempts. Prior to yesterday’s passage of the state constitutional amendment there was no allowance for abortion under Ohio law for rape or incest.
Dewine went to the airwaves saying essentially “I’m hearing Ohio voters ask for a rape and incest exception for abortion. If the voters agree to vote down the abortion legalizing amendment, I’ll work with lawmakers to add this exception.”
Dewine you’ve had years of this knowledge of what the voters wanted. There was even a vote in August signaling the abortion legalization amendment would pass. Why do you have to wait for voters to vote again? If you’re being honest, go ahead and get the lawmakers to add the exception to EXISTING law. But no, he’s putting the condition that the voters must reject the amendment that will put it into law instead. We don’t trust you on this Dewine.
I think we are starting to see a populace that understands political double speak and see through it. Honestly, after this past election, I’m starting to have some hope that shit can turn around.
