I’m genuinely confused how this is a thing. How are people rapidly pressing the power button 5 times in rapid succession without being aware of what they’re doing?
Now adding a 3 second press after those 5 presses is solving the problem? Mine as well go back to opening the phone app and dialling the number.
It’s usually a butt call, it easily happens in your pocket or bag, specially if you have other items in it as well. Some phone/cupholders in car might be just the right shape to press the power button repeatedly when turning or going over bumps.
Sometimes I wonder how can people not notice they’re calling emergency, because the phone usually makes loud noise and counts down before actually calling… But then I realise that if I have switched off notifications on my smart watch, I often miss a call ringing in my pocket, so…Yup. It could also be hardware failure in the sense of a flakey power button. Either way, it’s probably not people intentionally pushing the power button a lot
Definitely not intentional. Even if you are fidgeting with the power button, while being bored, the phone makes so much fuzz about it, when you hit the right combo. You would need to be deaf, blind or dead not to notice you’re just about to call emergency. Or startled by the noise, panic and throw your phone out the window followed by a brick, hammer and grand piano…
Nah, I did this once and didn’t notice until the call was placed because I was a little tipsy and engaged in conversation. IIRC it didn’t make any noise since my phone is always on vibrate, it just buzzed a bit and by the time I processed what was happening it was too late and I had to explain to the dispatcher that no, I was just fidgeting with my phone.
Might as well make it a burst of 9 presses, wait, and then 2 single presses /s
