Have anti immigration people ever stopped to think about why others risk their lives and choose to leave everything they know to come to a land of better opportunity? I’m all for doing it legally and having immigrants pay taxes, but trying to kill them to stop it is ridiculous. America is easily the richest country on the planet, and has more than enough resources to help these people.

They’re mad a new immigrant may be successful, when they should be furious at the ultra wealthy for hoarding all the money.

I mean if you have a 10 minute conversation with some native French folks they will give you a lot of really good arguments against allowing open borders for immigrants. Germany has the same problem.

They don’t even hurt the economy overall. The people coming over are typically of working age, generally motivated and commit serious crimes at a rate less than half of native citizens. Texas has really good stats on this. The only stat illegal immigrants rate higher are moving violations. Possibly because they may not have licences or as much experience driving.

I’ve heard the arguments. It’s to take our jobs and our money. Would they like to do the jobs they claim are being stolen? No. But it’s great opportunity for young entrepreneurs, like lawn mowing! Are their kids going to do that? No. They’ll probably try YouTuber and Twitch long before anything else.

Immigrants do pay taxes. Even the undocumented ones. They don’t get the same benefit as the rest of us though. So most of the time we are taking advantage of them.

If you don’t like that source there are plenty of others you can Google too.

It’s crazy to think they don’t pay taxes. It just doesn’t make logical sense. How are they going to avoid it? The company paying them isn’t going to be able to just hide that, so they have to register it and the taxes get paid.

You’re describing the average conservative. The people who push the view that immigration is ruining the US aren’t average conservatives. They’re the ones who lie to conservatives to spin them into a rage in order to manipulate their vote. Those people are not themselves conservatives, but figureheads that collect a nice pretty penny from the rich folk to make sure the anger of their base never turns against the class whose fault everything actually is.

In short, as long as conservatives keep letting their talking heads tell them who to be mad at, they never will be furious at the ultra wealthy. And that’s by design.

The big problem with that comment is most of them are also saying immigrants are taking our jobs, but they won’t work them because the money isn’t good enough for the actual work that they do.

And these business owners complaining about this will turn around and hire them because they are willing to work for less than minimum wage increasing the businesses profit.

All in all, if you look at it reasonably, the ultimate problem is created by business owners wanting to make more money and to do that push slave labor wages that only the immigrants are willing to take.

Maybe I framed that statement wrong. Of course they are the ones that say it the loudest. But it’s not them who introduced that mindset into conservative crowds. Just like the recent flare up of transphobia. They hear it from the top that trans folk are molesting children, or that immigrants are taking jobs, or whatever the thing is that keeps their ire off of the rich, and they spread it around their own circles because they need an out group to villify.

You haven’t noticed that hatred for these groups tend to be a conveniently-timed deflection from actual problems?

Getting the average Democrat riled up and angry at the average Republican is also by design. As long as the working class is mad at itself, it isn’t looking at the ruling class as the problem.

The ruling class is absolutely the source of the problem.

Conservativism is not an ideology, it is a disease of the mind, a failure to see beyond your own experiences. The conservative wants to preserrve the aspects of the status quo that directly benefits themselves, and vehemently demand a chance to anything that doesn’t. For as long as there have been conservatives, they have had shifting priorities to suit the in-group.

That’s why they don’t stop to think about how others are affected. Others are outside the in-group, and are therefore bad. Anything bad that happens to them is permitted, possibly with some rare regret, but the only priority is the self.

That’s why the conservative demonizes education as elitism, expertise as arrogance. It is why the conservative looks for scapegoats and outsiders, and why they seem unable to perfeive their own hypocrisy. There is no hypocrisy for a conservative, because the value does not exist outside the self. So whatever the self wants is good when the self wants it, and anything else is bad. If the conservative wants to subjugate women and punish them for sex, they will prohibit abortions for all. If the conservative wants an abortion the very next day, they will seek it out and lament how difficult it was for them. They will not change their opinion, anymore than a ship adrift in the wind changes its heading.

A rational person might have blind spots where they don’t realize their beliefs are harmful. A conservative person will see the harm and decide that it is good, because that is the path that they want and everything else is an obstacle.

Many of these immigrants are crossing other countries where they would be safe if they stopped there. Instead they choose to continue on to the US. At that point they are economic migrants, who are trying to skip the queue.

It’s the same here in Australia. Instead of stopping in a safe country in SEA, they make dangerous boat voyages because they believe they’ll be better off financially. We turn those boats around or keep them offshore, where at anytime they could go somewhere other than Australia but they don’t want to because they want to try and seek welfare here.

I have no sympathy for them. Let in the people who apply properly to come here. Not those who try to sneak in.

Some have other options. So your solution is to condemn all of them? No sympathy, even for those who are fleeing death? You’ll let them all die because you think some people might take advantage?

Why not have a system where you let people in, give them temporary safety, and evaluate their situation before deciding whether to admit them or return them to their country of origin?

Maybe you like that some of them die? Is that a benefit of the current system?

The blades between the buoys and netting underneath do in fact indicate that they’re designed for cruelty at the bare minimum. Also, the Rio Grande doesn’t just belong to Texas. It’s a federal border with another sovereign nation. Texas can’t just act cruel there unilaterally.

The "blades"between the bouys are no different than barbed wire, and the nets are obvious to allow marine life to move but keep people from easily swimming under. It’s designed as a barrier and so it includes basic barrier designs.

They were not saw blades. They’re pointy disks that were intended to prevent people climbing through the low places, and nets designed to allow marine life through but not people are not “designed to entangle”. It was fit for purpose and that purpose was keeping people from illegally crossing the water border. And what fundamental rights? They basically threw their own lives away trying to do something expressly forbidden.
